Wistia’s Chris Savage on Staying True to Your Brand Personality

wistia-chris-savageCo-founder and CEO of Wistia, Chris Savage was named a Top Young Entrepreneur by BusinessWeek in 2009 and has helped establish the company as the leader it is in video hosting, tracking, and promotion. He has also been a driving force in creating the organization's well-known, quirky culture and unique voice, but embracing it didn't come as naturally as you might think.

When we asked Chris about its origins last year, here's what he had to say:

“When we first started, we were not transparent about how many people were on the team or what we cared about. We thought that the key to being successful was to be professional and to act like a big company. It turns out that it's really obvious when a small company pretends to be big. It doesn't inspire confidence.

We started to notice that when we were genuine about how small we were, what our problems were, and even when we were excited about small things – like a new ping pong table – that our personal stories resonated much more than the overly professional ones.

Our personality is a huge part of our brand and I think it's been critical in letting our message travel more easily to a wider audience.”
