Website managementYour website says a lot about you as a business, so you should have a clear strategy for great, consistent, and effective website management. This should be true all year long, but there’s no better time than the New Year to put those practices into effect.

We've gone on and on until we're blue in the face about SEO and websites, but none of that really matters if you have horrid website that's impossible to navigate, has old and outdated information, or that's written in 8 point font that's a headache to read. Keep those features, and you're sure to have a high web page abandonment rate. If you want to keep you website working so that you meet your marketing goals, here are some tips that every marketer should be keeping in mind:

1. Simplicity Is Key

“Bigger” isn't always necessarily “better', especially when it comes to websites. As a matter of fact, most of the best website out there are super simple and clean in their presentation. This tends to be more attractive to visitors than having a website that includes a ton of animations and bright, flashy colors. HubSpot recently listed 15 of their favorite websites all of which are simple, have plenty of white space, and contain a very clear and obvious call to action. The result: higher conversion rates and a better ROI.

2. Better Offers and CTAs

Speaking of calls to action, this is always something that websites can definitely improve on. Keep in mind that the goal of any page on you site is to try and compel leads and visitors to engage more with you website and move further on down that good ol' sales funnel. This means segmenting the different pages of your website into groups that looks at who would benefit most from that particular page. For example, a product description page may signal that a lead visiting that page is further along the sales funnel. A CTA that offers a “free demo” or “free consultation” on this particular page would likely be more beneficial than the one that you have on your homepage that's simply about how one can “learn more” about your company.

3. Develop A Strong Relationship With Your Web Designer

The good news is that in today's world, there are a lot of resources out there for businesses owners who have no idea how to design a website to create their very own. HubSpot and WordPress are two content managing platforms that allow anyone with any level of web dev knowledge to build a website. That being said, hiring on a web designer who knows their stuff can really work to the advantage of your company. If you do choose to hire on a third party web designer, then make sure that you meet up with them, preferably in person, and discuss what your goals are for you website and how you want your website to work for you. The web designer should then also have their own input and ideas on how to bring your website to life and help you attain your personal goals or business goals.

4. Take The Time To Learn Some HTML

We know, we know. “HTML” is a four letter acronym that makes most business owners cringe. But why we encourage our clients to at least learn a bit of HTML is because they can then learn about HTML tags, how they affect their posts, and more. This allows you to make some easy and basic changes to posts without having to call a web designer every time you need assistance for something small or if you want to make small changes, which could cost you greatly for what may be a simple fix.

If you’re determined and dedicated enough to be a business owner, you can definitely learn enough about HTML and other factors to make your site a ‘super model’ website.
