Why trust is essential in the era of working remote [Infographic]

2020 has brought on a lot of changes for the world and, at the top of that list, was many businesses shutting their doors and sending their employees home to work remotely.

Are your employees still performing at the same level? Are they responsive? Or are they getting distracted by the day-to-day activities around their home?

Building trust with your remote employees, and knowing they will still stay productive, is something that is extremely important in making this new dynamic working successful.

Let’s review some key points from this infographic by Online Psychology Degrees to see how employers can build trust and prepare for what the future of the workforce holds.

But first, why is working remotely beneficial?

Pandemic aside, when compared to working in a traditional office setting, 91% of employees say they have a better work-life balance when working remote, 79% experience increased productivity and focus, and 78% feel reduced stress.

Employees with flexible options also enjoy their job more and 82% feel more trusted by their employer.

But the benefits don’t stop at the employees, employers experience them too!

Remote offerings can make your workplace more desirable for millennial and Gen Z talent and grow your talent pool immensely. Remote means you can find the best employee for the job no matter their physical location.

Employers will also save on in-office expenses: no coffee, utilities, and even no rent!

Building trust

While the benefits are enticing, working remotely also comes with a new set of challenges.

Managers worried about their employees' performance can begin to micromanage and employees may overcompensate by working too much to make sure they are being recognized. This can quickly result in burnout.

This is where the trust comes in.

Leadership can help show employees  trust by providing clear direction and resources needed to accomplish tasks.

Another key component here is to have regular communication and a great tool to do this with is a video hosting platform like Zoom

At IMPACT, we have daily and weekly team meetings as well as a once a week all-hands meeting so that the whole team feels aligned and heading toward the same goals.

According to the infographic, employees at organizations that value trust feel 106% more energy, 76% more engaged with tasks, 74% lower stress levels, 40% less likelihood of burnout, and 29% overall higher feeling of life satisfaction.

What does our future workforce look like?

Since the coronavirus outbreak, 67% of employers are actively making arrangements so that jobs previously done in the office can be done from home.

CNBC states in one of their recent articles, “Of the more than 1,200 employees surveyed between April 16 and April 17, nearly 20% said their employer is actively discussing how they can make remote work more of an option in the future.

With all of those facts, it is hard to ignore the idea that remote work life may be here to stay.
