5 Brands Whose Emails We Actually Love Seeing in Our Inboxes

email-marketing-marketers-loveYou can’t fight human nature.

Getting jealous, selfish, proud… Sometimes, there are things that we just can’t help doing or saying, even though we know better.

The same could be said about marketers. As consumers, we know what’s annoying and what we hate seeing or hearing from brands, but when it comes to our own work, “marketing nature” just takes over.

Creating emails that strike the perfect balance between delighting the reader and achieving your marketing goals is an art. Mastering it takes a lot of practice and the brands that do deserve applause from both consumers and marketers alike.

With this in mind, I went to my IMPACT teammates and asked them what brand’s emails they actually love getting in their inbox.

Here are four of the brands they mentioned for creating email marketing that even email marketers can love.

BuzzFeed Animals:

“Buzzfeed Animals! It’s always a high moment of my day when I get my “Dog a Day” email. It’s a pleasant break from all the salesy emails that come through on a daily basis. The happy pups and kitten pictures are a perfect way to take a quick mental break and help power you through the rest of the day. - Marcella Jalbert, Creative Lead

Dollar Shave Club:

“I love Dollar Shave Club’s emails. Good subject lines, good content, and from a marketing perspective, they always have something that catches my interest, brings me to the website, and usually ends in a conversion.

New hair gel? Let me give it a try. Peppermint butt wipes? Send ‘em over! Refill on my shave butter? Absolutely, and I’ll need one in two months as well.

Aside from the content, every single email I get has a very specific purpose. They never send emails just to send them - they’re always confirming, offering samples, or asking me to complete a specific task, such as completing a survey or recommending a friend.

I open every email I get from the Dollar Shave Club - because I know it’ll be worth it.” - Derrick Weiss, Account Executive

Food52:

"The pictures Food52 uses throughout their emails are stunning. They showcase the item or items they are trying to sell you in a way that makes me think about myself using them. In this case, I need whatever they're selling to make a cake as perfect as theirs." - Amanda Leclair, Client Resource Manager

GrubHub:

"I like receiving GrubHub's emails because almost every one that comes through offers a discount of some sort. They never send junk emails that I don’t care about. In this particular case, I'm a huge fan of how they incorporated animation. " - Karisa Egan, Marketing Coordinator

Litmus:

“I always look forward to receiving the Litmus emails. From a design point of view, they really are the cream of the crop. They’ve got beautiful illustrations and gifs and their content is always broken up into digestible pieces. Whenever I need some email inspiration, they’re always the first ones I checkout.” - Joe Rinaldi, Creative Lead
