After four years of collegiate level football, I was in premier physical shape approximately five years ago. Throughout the past 5 years I have gotten married, had 2 kids, and gotten settled in my daily routine which means that I have I have slacked off on maintaining my workout sessions. In other words, I very rarely saw the inside of a gym. So, instead of letting things get further out of hand I have hired a personal trainer and I can already see/feel a difference.
Now, I know exactly what you are thinking: “What in the world does this guy’s personal health have to do with making my website better?” The fact of the matter is that it has everything to do with your search engine optimization! Like my personal health (and yours) the only way to maintain a healthy life is to maintain consistent workouts, and the only way that your search engine rankings will stay the same (or get better) is to maintain your search engine techniques. So, without further ado, let’s create the best workout for your search engine optimization strategies.
- Warming Up with Research — One of the most important things that you can do in a workout is the warm-up. It prevents you from injury and it also helps remind the muscles what you have done in past sessions. Researching your search engine optimization strategies is the warm-up to maintaining your search engine rankings. There are countless tools which help you uge the work that you have previously done, and realize changes that need to be made within your optimization strategies, but it also affords you the opportunity to review keywords and their conversions.
- Tone Up with Tagging — Muscle tone is one of the aspects of a workout that need to be monitored consistently. If you start to lose muscle tone, you need to alter the type of exercises and their quantity as well as quality of how you execute. Rankings for each keyword is like your muscle tone. If you start to drop in the rankings, you have to change the tagging on the optimized pages. The way you tag pages, the formula that you utilize, and much more will IMPACT your search engine rankings. So, keep an eye on your overall rankings and adjust your tagging as needed.
- Cardio with Content — In order to maintain your overall health, cardio exercise are the most efficient means and reach the farthest distance. Consider quality website content as cardio for your site. Not only does content drive search engines to index your page more consistently, but the addition of fresh, keyword-rich, and user-needed content will help you maintain great search engine rankings. Take advantage of the industry knowledge that you have, share that with your audience (and search engines), and prolong your search engine health.
- Bulk Up with Building Links — Like building muscle, obtaining top search engine rankings is not an overnight process; both take time, hard work, and patience to accomplish. Some businesses only want to spend 3 – 5 months on search engine optimization. Think about it from a workout perspective; can you build substantial muscle in that amount of time? The answer is an immediate “No”. However, if you want to build top search engine rankings, a strong link building campaign is the best way to achieve this goal. In order to obtain these high rankings, building links should be one of the major focal points within your optimization strategies, and should be a task throughout a long period of time to achieve optimal (long-lasting) results.
The end-all point within this conversation is that search engine optimization is not a one-time fixes all solution to search engine rankings. Similar to your health, if you only implement search engine optimization for a short period of time, your results will peak and then dwindle down during your hiatus. However, if you consistently and continuously engage with optimization techniques, your search engine rankings not only will you maintain your rankings, but you may also improve on them as well. In conclusion, to maintain or improve on your current rankings, workout regularly with you search engine optimization techniques.
