During the web design process, there are countless companies which focus solely on an aesthetically pleasing design, but IMPACT also researches how your target audience will view your website. In other words, we all know that the most common way to browse through a website is over a computer monitor whether it be a Mac, PC, iPad, or some other platform. However, there are a full array of other devices that can display a website:
- Television — With the arrival of Google TV, there will be more and more website viewed over the TV. This can be a great means to reach more users as it is the most widely used media source in the world. The site design for TV is a bit different, but nothing that cannot be accomplished through conversations with your web design company.
- Game Consoles — The major gaming systems like Playstation and XBox have been able to view websites more efficiently throughout their years of existence. With that said, though, very few of the gaming console users utilize this feature to their advantage. If your target audience is of that “gaming age” it is very important to design your site to be viewed easily through the game systems.
- iPod’s — With Sony pioneering quite a few tech savvy devices, one of the up and coming devices which can view websites is the iPod. Not only do you have the ability to listen to your MP3′s with this device, but you can also view full sites. However, as a quick design tip, take into consideration the limited browser space that is allowed by the small screen of the iPod.
- Smartphones — This shouldn’t come as a surprise, but there is a significantly large number that is infinitely increasing on a daily basis for the number of smartphone users. To couple that fact, there are an exponentially increasing number of people who utilize their phones to view websites. With regard to design, make sure that your site is compatible with a smaller screen (similar to the iPod).
The general idea when it comes to designing a website is to make it readily accessible for a majority of your target audience. If you don’t take the time to understand or research the ways in which your audience views your site you will have wasted money on the project. However, if you invest some of your resources into finding out what medium (TV, game console, smartphone, iPod, etc) your clients utilize to view your site you can design/develop a site that is compatible for the most number of people possible.
