Twitter Commits Social Suicide

By: Mark Gibbs

"With a title like this, it was obvious that this article was going to be interesting. The article describes the new content limitations on Twitter, stating that because it is illegal in some countries to post or talk about specific topics (ie. Pro-Nazi broadcasting of comments in France and Germany is illegal), that Twitter will “monitor” those Tweets and not show them to those countries should it deem them “illegal”. It sounds like the details are still being ironed out, but it is sure to cause a media stir as well as some potentially big problems for twitter in the future."

The Best Looking Beer Cans – a Beer Can Appreciation Day Special

By: Fernando Jose

"With the weekend around the corner this seemed like a good article to end the week with. January 24, 2012 marks the 77th anniversary of the day Gottfried Krueger Brewing Co. first brought canned beers into the market. Though it hasn’t been (and probably never will be) declared an official holiday, more and more people are celebrating Beer Can Appreciation Day to pay tribute to the creation that has changed the experience of buying, keeping and drinking beer, forever. YTD takes part in the Beer Can Appreciation Day celebration with this collection of 35 tasteful beer can designs."

Facebook Timeline Likely Coming to Business Pages Near You

By: Pamela Vaughan

"We all have different feelings about Facebook's new look, the timeline. Some people think it's invasive and some like being able to go all the way back to when they were "born." Personally, I'm on the fence. This article I found is about rolling the timeline over to business pages which I think is a great idea! The layout is great for grabbing attention. With the large banner on top it will be impossible to miss any announcements when it's spanning across the top of your whole Facebook page. I think it will be great for grabbing the attention of new customers!"

Sticking to your New Year's Resolution to be More Social

By: Kathleen O'Neil

"Yesterday I complained how my Twitter follower count is much less than impressive. I'm sociable... being social is what I do! So why the low count? This blog is simple and to the point in explaining that I am not alone. Kathleen gave some good tips on how to expand in the social media world. At least after reading this, I don't feel so bad and I know there is hope. I'm going to set some goals, and I am sure I will exceed Natalie's follower count in no time. Oh, and.. follow me on Twitter! @impactamy"

Civil War 150

By: Fantasy Interactive (FI)

"My link this week is one of the best infographics I have come across. This flash-based infographic was created by Fantasy Interactive (FI) to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War. The level of detail they put into this is truly amazing. It takes a few seconds to load, but it’s certainly worth the wait."

A Showcase of Typography in Webdesign

By: Jameel Khan

"Awesome roundup of typography examples in web design. Big, bold type can be a great way to improve the "wow" effect the viewer will feel. My personal favorite out of these is Amazeelabs.com. The combination of textures, hand drawn effects, and desaturated colors make this site what it is."

HTML5: What is it?

By: Gary Marshall

"To Me HTML5 is very new, and I haven’t heard much about it. However after diving in and reading this article it made me better understand what it is and what’s going on with it. After reading the first point of “What is HTML5?”, I was so excited about HTML5. The reason is HTML5 sounds like an angle that was sent down to save my life. That’s right save my life; if you have ever coded a site, you would know the pain I have had to deal with. Making my code fit and be functional is just terrible and often times very hard. So let me get back to why I think HTML5 is an angel. The reason being is because it does everything. To vague? Well HTML5 combines parts of CSS, and java together. That means you don’t need bulky and a ton of different web plugins to make your site work and look good. If you see some of the demos, it takes many of the functionalities from the iphone/mobile devices and allows you to use them on the web. One really cool feature I like is the HTML5 canvas, which in one instances always you to manipulate photos like on an iphone. On the canvas you can stretch, rotate and move the photos around. In my opinion HTML5 is the future of web design, however it’s a shame a majority of the browsers being used today can’t view HTML5."
