You're Out of Touch
Before you can even begin the process of crafting your blog article, you have to have some idea of what your target prospects want to know and learn. The biggest mistake you could make it assuming that this whole "blogging" thing is a waste and impossible to see an ROI. According to HubSpot, 78% of Internet users conduct product research online.
So...what are the challenges and goals of your prospects? Once you know this, you'll have a basic structure on which to build the entire focus of your blog around.
The most effective way of learning more about your prospects is through social media. If you haven't already harnessed the power of social media for business, it's time to do so. You're falling behind. Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter are great places to engage and ask questions from your followers and prospects, a simple and proven way to learn more about them.
Once you're hitting on exactly what your prospects want to know, your website traffic will certainly reflect the benefits.
Blog Titles are a Snore
Ever hear the old saying, "never judge a book by its cover?"
Of course you have. Well....forget that. Because when it comes to blogging, everyone will judge your article by the cover (title.) If it doesn't sound intriguing, they're not going to click on it. There's plenty of other stuff out there for your prospects to check out, so it's important that you grab their attention.
Great blog titles are:
- Convey value
As I said earlier, you want to grab their attention. So brevity is key. The Internet is bursting at the seams with distractions, so you want to be short and to the point. It's equally as important to use actionable language, as this creates urgency and also lets readers know what they can actually do.
And most importantly, convey value. Why should your prospects be reading this blog article? What will they get out of it? Why do they need it?
If you can answer those three questions in your blog title, you're on the right track. Our ebook, "How an Inbound Marketing Agency Does Blogging" will help you get started in generating your blog topics and titles.
Are you Optimized?
Referring to that stat from earlier in the post regarding users conducting product research online, they're doing so using search engines like Google to find the resources and information they need.
Simply put, if your content isn't optimized for the search engines, no one is going to be finding it.
Every blog post need the following:
- A focus keyword
- Three other keywords you want the article to rank for
- Image alt tags
A focus keyword should be the MVP of your blog post, meaning it should be the one word you're looking to rank for in any particular article. It should be featured in the title of the post, at least three times throughout the post, and also in the meta description of the post. This will ensure that your post is fully optimized and ready to be found in search engines.
No Social Sharing
One of the most effective ways at driving traffic to your blog post is by promoting it through your social media channels.
Here at IMPACT, we have over 2,000 Facebook followers and over 20,000 Twitter followers. By sharing each of our blog articles through the various social media channels, the opportunity for driving more traffic is immense, as we're exposing our content to a large volume of potential readers in just the click of a mouse.
This makes taking advantage of social media for your business all the more important, as it can lead to a significantly larger volume of visitors to your blog posts.
