Is your social media campaign experiencing a lull? Are comments and retweets at an all time low? Maybe it’s time to spice things up!
Having great content is, well, great, but sometimes it’s not enough to keep social media users engaged. Sure, you have a good following that is interested in what you have to say on a regular basis, but what about new followers? Is what you’re currently doing enough to attract new fans? Remember, your goal is to continually increase your social media presence in the hopes of captivating new potential leads.

Spice Up Your Social Media Engagement
Effectively engaging your social media following means finding unique ways to communicate with your followers, which will take a bit of creativity on your part. We’ve included five sure-fire ways of spicing up your social media engagement below.
1 – Share a Video
Visual content is always popular in the social media realm, and what’s more visually compelling than a fantastic video? Whether it’s funny, artistic, or just plain informative, a video can capture the attention of people all over the Internet.
2 – Hold a Contest
Everyone loves a good contest, especially if you’re offering a great prize. The thrill of the competition and the exhilaration that comes with actually winning something is what makes contests so popular.
3 – Make a Joke
If you can make people laugh, you can definitely spice up your social media campaign. Share a clever meme, post a silly photo, or create your own parody. At IMPACT, we’re a big fan of memes, which you can easily create yourself at http://www.memegenerator.net/. Whether we’re looking to hire new employees or just sharing a fun fact about inbound marketing, we like to get creative with our content!
HubSpot recently created a parody of the viral music video “Gangnam Style” by rapper and choreographer PSY, which was a huge hit with followers and fans. Check out the video yourself and just try to keep a straight face. Humorous content is so successful on social media because users like to share it with their friends and followers. Think about anything that has recently gone viral – it’s almost always funny!
4 – Reward Your Fans
This may sound similar to “Hold a Contest,” but it’s actually in a category of its own. Rather than holding a contest and selecting a single, or a few, winners, consider a social media campaign where you reward all or many of your fans and followers. Rewarding your fans is a great way to encourage interaction, create a buzz around your product or service, and show that you care about your followers.
Kraft Macaroni & Cheese demonstrated a great example of this with their “Mac & Jinx” Twitter campaign. Whenever two people tweeted “mac & cheese” at the same time, Kraft sent them both a message to point out their “Mac & Jinx.” The first of the two to respond to Kraft won five boxes of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, as well as a free T-shirt. Not only did this encourage users to tweet about mac & cheese, raising brand awareness, but it also provided a reward to many people who were discussing their product.
5 – Interact with Followers
Last, but definitely not least, be sure you are always interacting with your fans and followers. If people are leaving you comments or retweeting your content, you need to show that you’ve noticed (and that you care!). Start a conversation with someone who left a comment on your Facebook page, or thank Twitter users for their retweets. By remaining engaged with your followers, you’ll encourage other people to interact with you and take part in the conversations you are already having.
